Trucking ATS Guide: Driver Applicant Tracking Systems Explained

Hiring a CDL driver is nothing like hiring an office worker, and the software shows it. A trucking ATS (applicant tracking system) is recruiting software built specifically for driver hiring — short mobile applications, DOT-compliant employment history, and the consent and verification workflow federal rules require. A generic HR system, however good, wasn't built for any of that.

Why generic ATS/HR software fails for drivers

Common driver ATS platforms

Vendors carriers frequently run include Tenstreet (whose IntelliApp application is the most widely recognized driver apply flow in the industry), DriverReach, TruckRight, and AvatarFleet, among others. On the other side, plenty of fleets — especially private fleets whose parent company standardized on corporate HR tools — run drivers through generic systems like Workday, iCIMS, or BambooHR.

The sales angle: a fleet hiring CDL drivers through a generic corporate ATS is usually carrying manual compliance work (paper DQ files, ad-hoc consent forms) and losing applicants to a long apply flow. If you sell driver recruiting software or compliance services, those fleets are your best-fit prospects — and they're findable.

How to tell which ATS a carrier runs

  1. Follow the apply button. The application link on a carrier's careers page usually lands on the vendor's own domain or a branded subdomain — the URL names the platform.
  2. Check their job postings. Postings on driver job boards often route back to the same vendor apply flow.
  3. Look at the application itself. Vendor branding, form structure, and hosting fingerprints identify the platform even when the link is disguised.

Any single carrier takes a few minutes to check by hand. Checking a whole territory is a data problem — which is exactly the kind of problem worth automating.
