Does ZoomInfo Have Trucking Data? What It Covers, What It Doesn’t, and How to Fill the Gap

The short answer: ZoomInfo tells you who to call. It cannot tell you which carriers to call. That is not a knock on the product — its contact data is genuinely strong, and DotRadar ships a ZoomInfo connector precisely because we think it is worth keeping. But if you sell into trucking, carrier selection is the hard half of the job, and it is the half ZoomInfo has no data layer for.

What ZoomInfo actually has for trucking

More than people assume. ZoomInfo publishes a full dataset inventory, and it includes a Fleet dataset of 45 fields — national and local fleet size, vehicle class by gross weight (GVW 1 through 8), and fuel type, linked to company records.

That is real data. It is also built for selling fuel cards, telematics and vehicle leasing to any company that owns vehicles. A bakery with twelve vans is in it. It is not a universe of FMCSA-authorised motor carriers, and it carries no regulatory identifier you could join to one.

What it does not have — and why that is structural

Across ZoomInfo’s own data dictionary, its logistics and trucking page and its data-sourcing FAQ, there is no mention of USDOT or MC numbers, operating-authority status, safety ratings, BASIC scores, inspections, crash records, insurance filings, power units as filed, cargo types or operating radius.

The telling detail is that ZoomInfo does license regulatory data for other verticals — National Insurance Producers with NPN numbers and licensed states, contractor licensing, UCC filings. They know how to do it. They have not done it for trucking. Their own sourcing FAQ names news articles, SEC filings, job postings and press releases; DOT filings are not among them.

So this is not a data-quality complaint. It is a structural gap: there is no field in ZoomInfo that answers

“Active-authority carriers running 15–75 power units, hauling reefer, whose vehicle out-of-service rate is more than twice the national average, within 200 miles of Dallas.”

That is a question about a federal record, and it has to be answered somewhere else.

ZoomInfo column checked against their published data dictionary, August 2026. DotRadar coverage measured against the live universe of 106,814 active US carriers at 10+ trucks.

Two ways to close it

Option one — pair them

The ultimate B2B trucking stack

Keep ZoomInfo for what it is best at. DotRadar picks the carriers — scored for your persona, in a real buying window, with the radius, equipment and incumbent vendor attached — and the built-in ZoomInfo connector puts named contacts on exactly those accounts. You stop spending enrichment credits on companies that were never going to buy.

Option two — replace it

Built for this industry from the ground up

If trucking and private fleets are your market, DotRadar may be all you need. Contact coverage is already high — phone on 97.1%, email on 89.7%, street address on 98.0% — on top of the carrier intelligence a generic database has no way to produce. No second seat, no six-figure contract for data about industries you do not sell to.

That is why the connector exists. We are not afraid of ZoomInfo sitting next to us, and we would rather integrate honestly than tell you a tool you already pay for is worthless.

How to layer carrier selection on a seat you already own

  1. Select in DotRadar. Filter the universe by authority age, fleet size, equipment, radius, safety exposure and live buying triggers for your persona.
  2. Export or enrich in place. Send the DOT list straight through your connected ZoomInfo account from inside DotRadar — no export and re-import.
  3. Spend credits only where they land. Search costs nothing and tells us who has an email on file; only those people are enriched.
  4. Work it. Contacts are stored against the carrier for your whole team, so nobody pays twice for the same person.

Where ZoomInfo still wins

Worth saying plainly. Its direct dials and verified emails at large enterprises are deeper than ours. If you sell to enterprise carriers, 3PLs and shippers as much as to fleets, ZoomInfo alone may genuinely be enough. And DotRadar starts at 10 trucks — if you are chasing owner-operators, neither tool is the right answer.

Questions people ask

Does ZoomInfo have DOT numbers?

No. USDOT and MC numbers do not appear anywhere in ZoomInfo's published data dictionary. Its records are keyed to company entities, not to FMCSA operating authority, so a ZoomInfo list cannot be joined to a carrier's federal record without matching on name or domain first.

Does ZoomInfo have FMCSA safety data or CSA scores?

No. Safety ratings, BASIC percentiles, roadside inspections, out-of-service rates and crash records are not among ZoomInfo's datasets. ZoomInfo's own sourcing FAQ names news, SEC filings, job postings and press releases — not DOT filings.

What is ZoomInfo's Fleet dataset? Is it motor carrier data?

It is a real dataset — 45 fields covering fleet size, vehicle class by gross weight (GVW 1 through 8) and fuel type. But it describes any company that owns vehicles, including a bakery with a dozen vans. It is not an FMCSA for-hire carrier universe and carries no regulatory identifier to join to one.

Can you filter by power units or authority status in ZoomInfo?

Not as FMCSA reports them. You can filter by employee count, revenue and industry code, and by ZoomInfo's own fleet-size field. You cannot filter by active operating authority, power units on the MCS-150, or hazmat endorsement.

Does ZoomInfo cover small trucking companies?

Coverage thins as company size falls — a pattern ZoomInfo users report generally, not specific to trucking. Most US motor carriers are small businesses, so the segment where ZoomInfo is weakest is most of the industry by count. DotRadar covers every active US carrier at 10 or more trucks.

Can ZoomInfo tell me when a carrier's insurance is up for renewal?

No. Insurance filings are FMCSA records, not firmographic data. DotRadar reads the L&I filing record, which carries the insurer name on about a third of the universe; a true renewal date is available on far fewer, and we label it rather than implying we have it everywhere.

How do I add contact data to a list of DOT numbers?

Connect ZoomInfo, Apollo or Seamless.ai in DotRadar, then drop a CSV of DOT numbers into Live Enrich. DotRadar searches your provider, filters to people who actually have an email, pulls their details and stores them against the carrier for your whole team.

Is DotRadar a replacement for ZoomInfo?

It can be either. If you sell into trucking and private fleets, DotRadar answers which carriers to call and when, and its own contact coverage is high — phone on 97.1 percent, email on 89.7 percent. If you already have ZoomInfo, connect it and keep its contact depth on top.

What is the best sales intelligence tool for selling to trucking companies?

It depends on whether your problem is who to call or which company to call. ZoomInfo is strong on the former across all industries. For trucking specifically, carrier selection needs the federal record — authority, safety, filings, radius, equipment — which is what DotRadar is built on.

Why does DotRadar offer a ZoomInfo connector if it competes with it?

Because they answer different questions and plenty of teams already pay for ZoomInfo. Pairing them gives you carrier selection and contact depth together. We would rather integrate honestly than pretend a tool you already own is worthless.
